Conferment of Indonesian navy award to former ROK's Chief of Navy
Bilateral relations between Indonesia and South Korea are growing steadily in almost every field, mostly in trade and investment sector. Recently, cooperation of both countries in the defense sector is also enlarged, not only on capacity building in the form of joint training, but also joint research of production of some military equipment. For that reason, Indonesian Government had considered and decided to present awards to the one who were behind the robust development of defense cooperation. In this time, President Republic of Indonesia Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono would like to confer an award of "Bintang Jalasena Utama" (the highest navy award ) to former Chief of Navy of the Republic of Korea Admiral Ret. Kim Sung Chan.
On behalf of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. John A Prasetio had presented the award to Admiral Ret Kim Sung Chan on 23 November 2012 at the Indonesian Ambassador residence in Yoido, Seoul. On his remarks, Ambassador John said that navy cooperation of both countries has been grown significantly during Admiral Kim tenure as Chief of ROK Navy. Among of them are grant of military vehicle of LVT7 A-1 from ROK marine to Indonesian marine and joint training for Indonesian submarine personnel. The joint training had been held during the overhaul of Indonesian submarine Nanggala in Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in 2010-2011.
The occasion was attended by South Korean Government officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Navy and some official of DSME and Korea Aerospace Industries.
